Our story
Food that shows up the way you pictured it
Mashmanim caters Shabbos and simchos from its kitchen in New Square to Monsey and well beyond — planned with you, cooked in one kitchen, and delivered to your door.

Where this started
The name comes from the zemer sung at the Shabbos table — achol mashmanim, shesei mamtakim. We opened around Chanukah, and a good part of the shtetl decided it must be from ichlu mashmanim, the one sung on Shabbos Chanukah instead. We stopped correcting people.
Menachem Avrohom Austerlitz grew up in New Square and has never lived anywhere else. He started out helping at simchos in the hoif as a bochur, then cooking for pay: Shulchan Melochim, several years at Grand & Essex, the deli at Rockland Kosher, the Papa cheder kitchen, and finally the kitchen of the Skverer yeshiva. He took something out of each one.
Mashmanim itself started with somebody else's cancellation. A caterer walked away from a bar mitzvah at the last minute, and the baal simcha — knowing he was in the business — asked whether he could take it. He took it with both hands, and left the yeshiva kitchen shortly after. That was about eight years ago. There are eleven people here now, and our food is on the shelves in two shops in New Square.
We cater from the meal delivered to a kimpeturin through to a yartzeit seuda, and everything in between — vach nachts, kiddushim, brissen, upsherin, bar mitzvahs, sheva brachos, siyumim. A few portions or a few thousand: at the hachnosas sefer Torah in New Square we sent out thousands for the ezras noshim alone.

How we work
What we will not compromise on
A Yid there start to finish
We do not drop the food at the hall and leave it to be arranged by whoever is around. Somebody responsible is there from setup until the last tray goes out.
We fit your box, not ours
Most caterers have their policies and you arrange yourself around them. We would rather work the other way — gluten free, no nuts, a menu built around what your family actually eats.
It is your simcha, not another job
For us it is another bar mitzvah. For you it is your bar mitzvah, once. We try to keep that straight in our heads.
Straight about money
If we quote you on what the ingredients cost and then buy them cheaper, we call and return the difference. If a waiter does not turn up, you are not charged for him — even when nobody in the hall noticed.
